Painting a Flexi-Frog

Today we’re going to take this cute Flexi frog toy and make this. The first thing I wanted to do is make this look like a poison dart frog because he just needs to look like one. So I took a French blue from folk art, it’s just acrylic paint.

And I just did a really light airbrush just on the back and a little bit overspray on the leg. So next was the eyes, I was going to paint them red. So I know when you’re painting something dark, you need to be able to have a lighter base coat. So I went over the eyes with a white. And this is just a regular Apple Barrel white acrylic paint that I got from Walmart. One thing to note is, that when I’m doing this, I’m not going right up against the edge because I want the red to be right up against the edge.

So I can actually go over that edge with the red and you don’t see any white. then I went over it with a red, this was actually flagged red from Apple Barrel. It’s a good little red. I like how bright and brilliant it is.

After I got red in the eyes, I wanted it to have these little dots all over the back just like a poison dart frog. And I am using a gloss black and it’s an Apple Barrel paint as well. And the key here is I’m really loading up my brush. So I can get really smooth edges on this just because of the filament lines. And I didn’t really want to make it super thin, because I almost wanted them to be a little more raised. So this is really just sporadic, and it’s almost like kind of a giraffe or a cow print kind of thing. Some are really big, some are a little small.

And when I’m almost done then I actually started to think I need to put some on the legs too. But you can make this however you really want then the last step is just painting the black in the eyes and I use this same gloss black.

Poison Dart Frog. He turned out really fun. It’s such a great print. And you can actually get this on colts 3d. I’ll put a link in the description. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve printed this thing. It’s just fun. got so many people that always like it so I printed out and give it to him and this one was probably gonna go to my wife. This was such a fun paint and it’s such a fun print and the Flexi test obviously works everything looks great.
